Leonard Firefighters Go Into Mop-Up Mode

Sponsored by:

The Leonard fire near San Andreas is 90 percent contained and 5125 acres have been consumed. The fire
is expected to be fully contained by 6 p.m. today.

Crews are continuing back firing operations on small pockets of flames along the flanks of the fire in
an effort to take the fuel away from the blaze, before hotter weather returns over the weekend. Smoke from these operations will be prevalent and residents of
Tuolumne and Calaveras counties may experience smoky conditions. There is no fire danger to these areas but those with respiratory problems should stay
indoors.

The cost to fight the blaze is estimated at 3.4 million dollars, as mop-up operations are expected to begin today.
