Exit Exam Coming Under Fire

A disability rights organization is going to court in an attempt to halt California´s new high school exit exam in March.
The Oakland-based nonprofit Disability Rights Advocates filed a motion for a preliminary injunction today in federal court.
An attorney for the group says California students are not prepared to take the statewide test. In addition, the attorney says the test discriminates against disabled students by not allowing them to use calculators or aides to waiver from the state.
Under California law, all students must pass the exit exam to graduate from high school, beginning with the class of 2004.
A spokesman for the state Department of Education calls the case “premature.”
