Had It With Republicans And Democrats?

Christina Tobin is a 32 year old woman, who ran as a Libertarian in 2010 for California Secretary of State. She lost that election but has used her experience to create a national organization called Free & Equal.

Tobin was Thursday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Free & Equal is a 501(c)(3) non-partisan non-profit organization, whose mission is to ensure free, open, and fair elections by empowering leaders from across the spectrum; from musicians and celebrities to student leaders to reform the electoral process by empowering young Americans to vote and run for elected office.

When asked if the youth really care about politics Tobin was emphatic, “They do care. They are rising and over the next few years, they are going to be a huge game-changer. According to Zogby polls, eighteen to twenty-eight year olds are the largest segment of active independent voters with no ties to the current two-party system.”

Tobin continued, “Free and Equal will become heavily involved with college students next year and help engage and shift power back to the individual voter. The two-party system is controlled by the elites. The youth will help break through that and we believe the power will shift back to the individuals at the local level.”

Although Tobin ran on the state ballot as a Libertarian, she insists that Free and Equal is not tied to any political party. Last year she helped moderate a “Third Party Presidential Debate” with Larry King. It was broadcast on C-Span and the internet. The debate included Presidential candidates from the Green Party, Justice Party, Libertarian Party and the Constitution Party.

Tobin concludes, “The two-party system is flawed and they do not represent the views of the younger voters. We are active in fighting back against the two main parties in addition to the mainstream media and we are putting the power of choices, voices and votes back into the hands of the local individuals.”
