An Axle Ends A Car Chase
Tuolumne County, CA — A car axle stops a high speed chase that started in Sonora and ended South of Jamestown and now police are asking for your help to catch the driver. A Sonora Police officer spotted the suspect, 34-year-old Anthony Ortega of Jamestown, driving a white 1994 Honda Civic on Mono Way Monday around four in the afternoon. The officer knew that Ortega had two outstanding no bail arrest warrants for possession of controlled substances.
When the officer tried to stop Ortega he took off. Police say Ortega drove through the Grocery Outlet parking lot onto S. Washington Street to Lime Kiln Road and onto Wards Ferry Road. It was at the bottom of the canyon where the officer put the brakes on the chase for safety reasons.
Chief Mark Stinson says, “During the chase Ortega’s unknown passenger tossed a vehicle axle out of the passenger side window at the pursuing officer.”
The passenger also threw other items out of the car window. The car has a California license plate number 4RIG505. If you have any information on Ortega’s whereabouts, the vehicle he was driving, or his passenger please call the Sonora Police Department at 532-8141.
