Groveland Man Guilty Of Attempted Murder
Oakland, CA — A jury has found a Tuolumne County man guilty of four counts of attempted murder following a 2010 shootout with CHP officers in Oakland.
The CHP pulled over 48-year-old Byron Williams on Interstate 580 in July of 2010, and he got into a gunfight with several officers. It came out in the trial that Williams used a 9mm handgun and 12-gauge shotgun. Williams was also convicted of three counts of being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.
Williams will be sentenced on April 3 in Alameda County Superior Court, and he faces the possibility of life in prison. Court documents stated that investigators learned that Williams packed the guns in his car and was on his way to San Francisco to target members of the Tides Foundation and American Civil Liberties Union.
