DFW Planting Smaller Fish
Sonora, CA — In order to reduce expenses at trout hatcheries, the Department of Fish and Wildlife will release smaller fish into state rivers and waterways.
In 2015, the Department of Fish and Wildlife will be releasing trout at ¼ lb, as opposed to ½ lb. DFW quietly posted the changes on its website last month, and announced the changes to state fish hatcheries. It could have an impact on tourism, given that many visit the Sierra Nevada region to fish.
DFW cited various reasons for making the change, including increasing fish feed and fuel costs, the unprecedented drought, maintenance and infrastructure costs, etc.
