How do I get palliative care?
Ask your doctor, nurse, social worker, chaplain or other care provider. In the hospital, we have an interdisciplinary team working together to coordinate individualized care. The hospitalist provides physician oversight. Other team members include nationally certified nurses and social workers, chaplains, specially trained pharmacists, and nurse case managers. The staff members on the palliative care team are committed to helping people with all of the issues that come with serious illness and have the training and experience to provide the right support. There is no extra cost for palliative care; it simply provides a more coordinated approach, improving the quality of care.
