Fire Restrictions Lifted On Forest

Sonora, CA — The Mother Lodes’ lower temps have prompted Stanislaus National Forest (SNF) officials to allow campfires within the forest again.
“The longer nights and shorter days have lowered our fire danger indices,” said Deputy Forest Fire Management Officer, Robert Laeng. “Though fire restrictions are being lifted, overall forest conditions are still dry and forest visitors should continue to be vigilant with fire safety.”
However, forest officials warn that staff continues to find unattended campfires and note that human caused blazes account for over 50 percent of wildfires on the forest. The fire restrictions will be lifted effective at midnight on Thursday.
A reminder, Cal Fire’s statewide ban on debris burning remains in effect.
