Busy Summer For Search And Rescue Team
Sonora, CA — It has been very busy tourist season in the Mother Lode, which has correlated into a busy year for the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit.
Search and Rescue is the focus of this weekend’s Mother Lode Views on the Clarke Broadcasting radio stations. Sgt. Jeff Hunt of the Sheriff’s Office reports that the team has already received 65 calls this year, which is more than all of last year. He says typically the team receives 50-70 calls per year. “We’ve been evaluating why (increase), and we’ve had some great weather, a better winter, and more tourists up here this year. We’ve had a lot more people up in the woods and it equals out to many more search and rescues occurring.”
Mother Lode Views aired at 9:30 this morning on AM 1450 and FM 102.7 KVML. Encore presentations will air Sunday at 9am on Star 92.7, 9:30am on KVML, and 10am on 93.5 KKBN. Sgt. Hunt is joined on the show by Mark Banks and Matt Bloom, who are among the key volunteers. They will talk about the more memorable searches in recent years and what it takes to become a member.
