Update at 3:30 p.m.: A stabbing incident in the Phoenix Lake area that Clarke Broadcasting was first to report this morning is now being updated by Tuolumne County Sheriff’s officials, who report that a suspect has been arrested for attempted homicide.

The scene of this stabbing is the same location where a hostage/standoff incident took place in February. As earlier reported, in that situation, 47-year-old Michael Snell was arrested after getting into an argument with his girlfriend. He then took a second woman hostage, who was able to lock herself in a bathroom. Snell also threatened that he had a gun, but eventually gave himself up.

This latest incident at the home in the 21000 block of Phoenix Lake Road near Bear Cub Drive began this morning at 8:01 a.m. when dispatch received a call reporting the stabbing. Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Jacob Ostoich relays that when deputies arrived at the home, they found an adult male who had injuries that looked consistent with a stab wound and he was taken by ambulance for treatment. When Clarke Broadcasting asked if Snell was the stabbing victim, Sgt. Ostoich replied, “Snell is not the victim.”

While detectives were searching the home and investigating the scene, another caller, a female juvenile, “requested to speak with deputies and voluntarily admitted to being the person responsible for the stabbing,” according to Sgt. Ostoich.

The suspect was arrested for attempted homicide and assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect’s name is not being released as she is a juvenile. Currently, detectives continue to conduct interviews while trying to piece together what happened. Sgt. Ostoich stressed, “We don’t want to be premature in releasing more information.”

Original post written by BJ Hansen at 9:11 a.m.: Sonora, CA — Phoenix Lake Road was briefly closed during the eight o’clock hour this morning, just below the Phoenix Lake Estates, because law enforcement officials were investigating a stabbing.

It happened at a residence near Bear Cub Drive. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Ashley Boujikian, reports that the stabbing victim was flown out of the area to treat injuries. No information has been released about a potential suspect. An investigation is ongoing in the area.

All of the earlier road closures have been lifted and vehicles are again allowed to travel freely.

We’ll pass along more information when it becomes available.
