Pinecrest School Still Empty
Tuolumne County, CA — The Twain Harte-Long Barn Union School District has rejected a proposal by Calaveras County based Mountain Oaks to rent out the building. Superintendent John Keiter says they are looking to sell or rent out the building but can’t yet.
Keiter says, “The Board has started a process to dispose of surplus property and that process is not completed. The District doesn’t have the authority to rent or lease the property under the education code. Also, Mountain Oaks doesn’t have the authority to ask to rent or lease the building under education code.”
The District has hired an appraiser to get the full cost involved with the building. Keiter says they are still waiting on those key numbers before they can move forward. He says the Board will reconsider Mountain Oaks request at its August meeting.
The school is located at 30433 Old Strawberry Road. The District has released a list of 11 uses that are considered “acceptable,” for the building. They include a school, senior center/residential, event center, camp (science camp or outdoor education), government/administrative office, industrial enterprise, technology enterprise, tribal use (casino), hotel, research and development enterprise, and beverage manufacturer.
