O’Byrnes Ferry Road And Bridge Project

Sponsored by:

Copperopolis, CA — O’Byrnes Ferry Road and Bridge rehabilitation or replacement project is open for discussion to the communities of both Calaveras and Tuolumne.

The purpose of the project is to improve the safety of the bridge and its approaching roadways over the Stanislaus River/Tulloch Reservoir.

The bridge was completed in 1957 and is considered “functionally obsolete” due to a narrow deck width and lack of seismic retrofitting. Initial cost estimates are between $30 to $40 million with two years of construction. The project is expected to be eligible for funding from the Federal Highway Administration under the federal Highway Bridge Program.

Calaveras County recently contracted with bridge designers, T.Y. Lin International (TYLI), to develop engineering concepts for bridge replacement or rehabilitation alternatives.

The photos provide some preliminary alternatives; more detailed information is available at obfbridge.com.

Over the next two months TYLI will meet with property owners and other community members to review the project and receive feedback. The first community meeting, hosted by Calaveras County, is on April 4th at 6:00 pm at the Copperopolis Fire Station.
