Calaveras Visitors Increased In 2010

Sponsored by:

Calaveras County saw an increase in tourism compared to the year before, according to the Calaveras Visitors Bureau.

Lisa Mayo, Calaveras Visitor Bureau Executive Director, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Mayo said, “The number of visitors through our doors increased by 2,500 last year.”

Mayo attributes the increased numbers to a good marketing campaign, tourists sticking closer to their regional home and a diversity of several activites offered throughout the county.

Winter projections statewide show a 4% increase in room reservations and Mayo is is pleased to see that Calaveras seems to fall in line with the growing numbers.

The Calaveras Visitors Center may soon have to close its doors as the Calaveras Visitors Board of Directors continues to work with the City of Angels Camp to remain in the building located in downtown Angels Camp. Negotiations continue and Mayo hopes that the issue is resolved soon.

Mayo is optimistic that the Visitors Bureau will continue to thrive, even if it is forced to relocate from the 700 square foot building. Mayo states that her primary focus remains on marketing and the issue of the building has been an unfortunate ongoing distraction.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
