Forestry Projects Receive Funding
Sonora, CA — $165,000 from the Federal Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act funding will go towards projects in Tuolumne and Mariposa Counties.
The majority of the Secure Rural Schools dollars help fund education and roads, but the remaining money is set aside for forestry projects. The list was put together by the Resource Advisory Committee (R.A.C.) and approved this week by the Tuolumne County Supervisors.
It includes $30,000 going to forest education tours put on by local organization TuCare, $28,000 will go to the Stanislaus National Forest Youth Partnership (employs youth to make summer trail and watershed improvements), $17,000 to the Forestry Institute for Teachers, $15,000 to cleanup marijuana cultivation sites, $12,000 to masticate Manzanita bushes at the Big Long Fuelbreak, and $7,000 to cleanup the Westside Railroad Grade Trail.
Specifically in Mariposa County, $27,000 will go towards reducing fuels in the Ponderosa Basin and $11,000 will go towards reducing fuels in Greenley Hill.
