Confirmed Fatality In Hwy 108/49 Accident

Sonora, CA – One person is confirmed dead in the head-on collision at the Montezuma Junction.
CHP Officer Brad Schultz says a red Ford Escort was traveling east on Hwy 108/49 around 1:45pm and drifted into the westbound lane for an unknown reason. The Ford was hit head-on by a big rig truck towing gravel.
The driver of the Ford was fatally injured. No other injuries have been reported. Gravel from the truck poured onto Hwy 108/49 and crews are working to clean it up. One way traffic control operations are in place. Continue to avoid the area if possible.
