Urquhart Comfortable With Summerville’s Emergency Procedures

Tuolumne City, CA — Summerville High School Principal Dave Urquhart remains quite comfortable with the proactive and reactive plans for dealing with a potentially tragic event on his campus.

Initially Urquhart points out during class hours there is only one entrance/exit to the campus. He adds that all individuals have to pass the Administration Building.

Secondly, Urquhart applauds the small school size (600 plus student) because it makes it relatively easy to recognize a stranger.

In addition, because of the small student body, teachers get extremely well acquainted with their students. They may be able to detect if there are emotional problems that could trigger a life threatening episode from within the student body.

In another proactive move Urquhart states there is a two-thirds and a one-third time counselor patrolling the campus each day.

As for a reactive situation, Urquhart adds that a “lockdown” procedure is in place and is practiced each year. Also there is an excellent bell system plus an exceptional 911 system in Tuolumne County.
