Sonora, CA — AAA projects a record 8.94 million Californians will be traveling over 50 miles from home for the Independence Day holiday. With the holiday falling on a Saturday, it is anticipated to surpass last year’s record of 8.9 million.
Today (Thursday), Friday, and Sunday, are anticipated to be the busiest on highways. AAA says the peak travel times, with the longest delays, are typically between 3-6 pm.
However, Saturday, July 4, is projected to see lighter traffic overall. The peak on the holiday is anticipated to be between 10 am – 2pm as people go to events and activities, and then taper off after 3 pm. It is barring any unexpected events on the road.
7.08 million Californians are projected to be driving to their destinations, and 1.2 million are expected to fly.
