Knight Fire Reaches 10 Percent Containment

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — With the use of a Cobra helicopter with infrared capabilities the U.S. Forest Service is now able to estimate the 1,643acre Knight Fire is 10 percent contained.

1,016 firefighting personnel are on site in the extremely remote Stanislaus River Canyon.

Resources that will be utilized during Day Five of the event include 22 Type One hand crews (20 per team) and six Type 2 hand crews (20 per team), four heavy lift helitankers, four medium helicopters and one light helicopter, 42 engines, 12 water tenders and 12 dozers.

Due to the amount of firefighting equipment and limited access to the general area the Sheriff’s Office is limiting travel with a periodic road closure at the intersection of Italian Bar Rd. and 4N01.

The cost of fighting the Knight Fire to date stands at $1.4 million.
