State Tourism Official Says Mother Lode Is Unique Region
Sonora, CA — Members of the Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau heard a presentation Friday afternoon from Susan Wilcox, the Vice President of Communications for the California Travel and Tourism Commission.
“Obviously this region has a lot to offer, and has a unique culture and history that is only found here,” says Wilcox. “There’s also geographic diversity and landscape that makes people want to come rest, relax and get rejuvenated.”
Wilcox is estimating that California will have an eight percent decrease in the number of people visiting the state this year. Meanwhile, she is hopeful that many California residents will choose to have a “staycation” and keep tourists dollars in the state. She says this could have a direct benefit on areas like the Mother Lode.
Wilcox says tourism is nearly a $100 billion industry in California and employs almost one million residents. She spoke at a luncheon hosted by the Visitors Bureau at the Sonora Oaks Conference Center.
