Big Meadow Fire Reaches 85 Percent Containment
Yosemite, CA — The Big Meadow Fire in Yosemite has increased in size to 7,354 acres and is 85 percent contained.
The National Park Service says that although a number of road closures will remain in place through the Labor Day weekend, Yosemite Valley is open and accessible from Highway 140 via El Portal and Highway 41 from Wawona. In addition, visitors on the east side of the park can access Tuolumne Meadows, Olmsted Point, and White Wolf via Highway 395 from Lee Vining.
All campgrounds in the park are open with the exception of Crane Flat and Tamarack Flat.
Residents in the community of Foresta were allowed to return to their homes this morning as the evacuation order was lifted.
Vistors to the Strawberry Music Festival at Camp Mather this weekend should use Evergreen Road to enter because Cherry Oil Road is closed through Monday due to firefighting activities.
Full containment of the fire is expected by Thursday, September 10th.
