Three Runoffs Highlight Mother Lode Primary Election
Sonora and San Andreas, CA — Three runoffs for supervisorial seats, two in Calaveras County and one in Tuolumne County, highlighted the unofficial Tuesday, June 3, 2008 Primary Election.
District One in Calaveras County will see a November General Election runoff between Gary Tofanelli (36%-743 votes) and Zerrall McDaniel (36%-738 votes).
Incumbent Tom Tryon and Angels Camp City Council member Lee Seaton will square off in November for Calaveras County´s Fourth Distict seat. Tryon finished with (42%-1,068 votes) while Seaton finished second (29%-728 votes).
In Tuolumne County´s District One Randy Selesia and Incumbent Liz Bass finished one-two in a three person race. Selesia totaled (39%-952 votes) while Bass completed the evening at (33%-813 votes). They´ll meet again in November.
One other notable race saw Tuolumne County Fourth District Supervisor Mark Thornton unseated by John Gray. The challenger finished with (52%-1,434 votes) while the 11 year veteran of the Board totaled (47%-1,306).
Measure U, the Ambulance Tax in Groveland and Big Oak Flat, easily passed. The YES votes totaled 1,066 (78%) while 291 voted NO (21%).
Total voter turnout in Tuolumne County was 37% while 39% of registered voters in Calaveras County returned their ballots.
