Many Telegraph Evacuees Allowed To Return Home

Sponsored by:

Mariposa, Ca — At 10 o´clock Friday night the mandatory evacuation orders were lifted for the majority of those affected by the Telegraph Fire near Yosemite.

Most who live in the Midpines and Mariposa areas were allowed to return home, however, officials say evacuation orders remain in effect for residences along Sherlock Rd.

Active fire behavior has been isolated to the north and east flanks of the fire. Other areas are experiencing short runs in the interior fire area due to lower humidity and higher temperatures. Good progress was made yesterday establishing and improving fireline around the north end. Today, firefighters will continue to work aggressively on getting fire lines completed in the north. Fire suppression repair needs are being identified and have begun in several areas.

The fire is considered 60% contained and 34,034 acres have burned. The total cost to fight the fire thus far is $24,383,889.
