Tuolumne City, CA — An internet scam has cost an unidentified Tuolumne City resident $1,300.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Department reports the resident bid on a MacIntosh lap-top computer on ebay. He lost the bid, but then he received an e-mail stating that the initial bid had fallen through and if he sent $1,300 through a Western Union station in London he would receive the lap-top. He sent the $1,300 but never received the lap-top. ebay then informed the individual he had been scammed.

According to Lt. Dan Bressler of the Sheriff´s Department, recovering money from an internet scam can be a nearly impossible task especially when many of the scams involve sending money to another country.
