Will I have the opportunity to make decisions about the tests, treatments and other care my child may receive in the hospital?
“Parents are absolutely involved in making decisions about the care their children receive, within the standards of care. The comfort of the child and family is paramount. We are there to treat the patient not the lab value. The overall status of the patient is more important than information from tests. Patients will also need follow-up care after discharge – another good reason to have a local pediatrician to see your child the day after leaving the hospital.
Hospitalization is an inevitably scary situation. Make sure you have a pediatrician you can trust to guide you through and minimize any angst for the whole family.
