Avery, CA — Avery Middle School was the site of an active-shooter training exercise this week.
Held annually, it took place on Tuesday, and over 100 first responders from Calaveras County were on hand.
The Calaveras Sheriff’s Office reports, “The training emphasized collaboration among law enforcement, fire services, and other emergency responders, focusing on rapid access to victims, the delivery of critical medical care, and enhanced survivability during hostile incidents.”
The sheriff’s office adds that throughout the exercise, participants refined communication strategies, clarified roles and responsibilities, and strengthened their ability to work as a unified team under high-pressure conditions.

This training is part of an annual countywide initiative, held at different locations to ensure all communities are prepared for emergencies.
The drill was held as students at Avery Middle School were on Spring Break.
