The rain brings fog to the valley this time of year, and the fog brings the California Highway Patrol´s pace car system.
Officers will pace traffic on major highways between Modesto and Bakersfield whenever fog limits visibility to 500 feet or less.
Pace cars run with flashing amber lights and lead traffic slowly through the fog. Go around a pace car and you are likely to get a ticket. Speed and following too closely are major reasons for crashes in the fog.
So, with or without pace cars on the road, drivers are advised to slow down, keep a safe distance from the car ahead and be patient. Better yet, postpone your trip, advises the CHP.
Dense fog is likely to form in the Valley areas starting Wednesday.
