The Sonora Police Department responded to a pipe bomb that was found at the 400 block of South Washington Street Wednesday morning.
Officers cordoned off the scene, although incoming police chief Mace Macintosh said the device had been run over by a car, and didn´t pose much of a threat.
A bomb squad from Calaveras County was called in to secure the device, and the area was reopened to the public Wednesday afternoon.
The investigation is underway as to where the device came from.
