A kidnapping has ended in Manteca with the safe return of a 7-year-old boy.

Manteca police issued an Amber Alert for 7-year-old Ryan Michael Schmitt after a handyman allegedly kidnapped him last night.

Police say John Henry Bocksmith told Schmitt’s mother he was taking Ryan and another boy to dinner around 7 p.m. Police say Bocksmith only took Ryan. When he didn’t return around 9 p.m., Ryan’s mother called police.

Late this morning, Bocksmith surrendered to police and Ryan Schmitt was returned.
