Governor Davis has acknowledged his administration has made its “share of mistakes” handling the state´s energy crisis and budget deficit. But, in a live televised address last night, Davis made no apologies for his record as governor.
For 15 combative minutes, Davis attacked Republicans and tried to place the state´s troubles in the perspective of an American economy that has “tanked.”
“Some Republicans have accused me of hiding the deficit. That is preposterous…in California, state finances are a matter of public record.” He also boasted of his record on education, health care, privacy protection, the environment and reproductive rights.
Davis denounced the recall effort as a power grab by the right. “I am going to fight this recall and the right wing forces behind it. You can take that to the bank,” Davis said to thunderous applause.
