Rescuers brought a six-month-old labrador retriever out from the bottom of a 70-foot-deep abandoned Sonora mine shaft last night.
City of Sonora Animal Control officer Char Logan says Pacific Gas and Electric lineman Kirk Dickerson heard the weak barking yesterday afternoon and called in authorities.
Logan thinks the puppy was down in the mine in a remote area off Cemetery Lane for at least three days, maybe longer. Seven hours after being discovered, the dog was brought up by two Sonora rock climbers who repelled down the dark mine shift. The dog was dehydrated but is recovering. The puppy´s owners have been notified, but a reunion is pending.
