Scam artists from Canada have bilked at least three people of thousands of dollars in Bakersfield.

Police say the scam is a common one where the victim is told they have won a large amount of money, but must pay a fee in order to get it.

Investigators say victims are often embarrassed for being scammed and don´t report the crime. Police urged that such offers should be ignored or reported to authorities.
