Groveland, CA – A prescribed burn near Pine Mountain Lake (PML) is underway, with brush being burned to reduce fuels in the nearby subdivision.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit (CAL Fire-TCU) will be conducting the burn through Thursday, October 16, 2025, encompassing up to 65 acres of annual grasses, oak woodland, and scattered brush.
“This will effectively reduce flammable fuels and enhance the fuel break system around the community of Groveland,” advised CAL Fire TCU, adding, “Control lines and established roadways will be used to prevent the spread of fire from areas outside of the burn units.”
The daily burning will take place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. During those times, smoke may be visible in the nearby Pine Mountain Lake subdivision, Groveland, and for travelers along Highway 120. Firefighters will remain at the scene while there is fire activity. Additionally, they will also patrol the area for several days after completing the ignitions.
