Hospital Shuts Down Maternity Ward
San Andreas, CA — Starting today, pregnant woman living in Calaveras County will have to come up with a different delivery plan.
Mark Twain St. Joseph´s Hospital has closed its maternity ward due to inadequate medical coverage. A plan is currently being developed to obtain additional staff and services are expected to be back within four to six months.
Expectant moms who arrive at the hospital will be assessed and, if stable, will be transferred to the closest area hospital.
Patients are being advised to talk with their doctors to make delivery arrangements ahead of time.
The hospital is referring patients to Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson, Sonora Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph´s Medical Center in Stockton or Lodi Memorial Hospital.
