Angels Camp, CA — At a special ceremony in December the Calaveras County Office of Education will receive the Golden Bell Award.
The award is given out every year by the California School Boards Association for outstanding school programs.
The County Office of Education won its award for the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program, which is run by Kathryn Eustis.
The program matches students with adults who provide guidance throughout the year. Planned activities include hikes, picnics, and visits to cultural and sporting events.
Superintendent John Brophy says the program is modeled after Big Brothers, Big Sisters of America and is very successful, mentoring more than 40 students over the past couple of years.
