Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors has called for a special meeting today.
Early on the agenda is a vote to declare the former Miner’s Motel property (purchased by the county for homelessness efforts) on Highway 108 in Jamestown as surplus property so that it can be donated to a non-profit entity interested in having it serve as housing for people in need.
The property was purchased in May of 2023 for $1.85 million in late 2023 using State of California Encampment Resolution funding. However, changes in county government leadership, including the dissolution of the Tuolumne County General Services Agency (and the layoff of those county employees overseeing the initiative), have shifted plans.
Later in the meeting, at 10 am, there will be a presentation about the response to the TCU September Lightning Complex Fire. It is anticipated to be the item that takes the most time. Representatives will be on hand to provide an overview of the fire response and to answer any community questions. The special session will start at 9 am in the board meeting room.
