State education officials say they will pursue the operators of California Charter Academy and its management company in court to try and recover money an audit found was misspent.

Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O´Connell is asking state and local prosecutors to investigate potential criminal wrongdoing identified in an audit of the public charter schools. A state audit found that millions of taxpayer dollars meant to educate students at the public charter schools were siphoned off by the schools´ founder, C. Steven Cox. O´Connell said today the state will file involuntary bankruptcy petitions against the schools and the management firm.
