Welfare Check Lands Sonora Man In Handcuffs

Sonora, CA – A welfare check resulted in the arrest of a Sonora man after deputies found him inside a home in the Yankee Hill area of Tuolumne County that was not his.

A caller recently requested a check on a residence in the 13300 block of Calle Quartz Drive, off Big Hill Road. When Tuolumne County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene, they discovered 49-year-old Elvis Brian Babcock inside a residence that he confessed he did not own, according to investigators. They added, “Babcock admitted he had entered the residence with the intent to steal a motorcycle and other various items.”

Subsequently, Babcock was taken into custody and transported to the Dambacher Detention Center, where he was booked for felony first-degree burglary and attempted vehicle theft. His bail was set at $50,000.
