AIDS Education Contract OK’d

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA – To help prevent HIV and AIDS, Calaveras County has hired Sierra HOPE of Angels Camp to do some prevention education.

According to the county Public Health Department, there are 20 people in Calaveras living with AIDS and three with HIV.

The Board of Supervisors Monday approved a $12,000 contract with Sierra Hope to provide countywide education services over the next six months.

Other services offered through Public Health are free confidential or anonymous HIV testing, community educational presentations, and case management.

Making the passing of this contract truly symbolic is World AIDS Day coming up on December 1.

For the first time ever, Calaveras will mark the event by holding a candlelight walk at 6 p.m. the Visitors Center in Angels Camp. The names of friends or loved ones that have been affected by AIDS will be read.
