Caltrans Finishes Silver Rapids

Valley Springs, CA — Silver Rapids Road in Valley Springs is reopened.
The project began in 2004 as part of a larger realignment of Highway 26. Portions of a hillside along 26 at Silver Rapids were shaved back to improve sight distance.
But just months after reopening in the spring, a fatal car accident shut down the intersection once again.
Caltrans determined additional site distance was needed and more of the slope was removed.
Officials said Caltrans´ job is to enhance highway safety but added that drivers should drop their speed and be aware of other vehicles.
