Sonora Man Grabs Box Of Beer Arrested For Robbery

Sonora, CA – A Sonora man was handcuffed after grabbing items from a local convenience store and shoving past a clerk to escape.

A theft call came in to Sonora Police dispatch around 11 p.m. recently regarding the AM/PM gas station on Pesce Way off Washington Street/Highway 49 after a white adult male wearing all white clothing grabbed a box of beer, cigarettes, and food items. Officers report the alleged thief then used his shoulder to force his way past a clerk blocking the door and fled the store.

Officers reviewed security camera footage and determined the suspect to be 38-year-old Robert Palmer, a transient. The next day, officers were flagged down again at the gas station. Workers told officers the same suspect was drinking beer and smoking cigarettes in the store and had locked himself in the bathroom. Palmer was arrested and booked into the Tuolumne County jail for felony robbery.
