Tomato Shortage Felt in Mother Lode Restaurants
Sponsored by:
Due to what one produce broker calls “unprecedented acts of nature”, prices for fresh tomatoes have risen sharply.
The effects are even being felt in the Mother Lode, as some restaurants are posting signs that tomato portions may be reduced as a result of the shortage.
Tomato supplies have been short ever since hurricanes hit Florida earlier this yera.
Rains in California and Mexico deepened the shortage.
Most tomatoes come from Mexico these days, although some California producers have been harvesting too.
Observers say relief may be another month away, when Florida´s tomato harvest resumes.
