Wrongful Death Suit Filed in Airola DUI Case
The mother of a teenager killed in a DUI crash in 2003, between Angels Camp and Murphys, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the family of the driver, the hostess of a party, and Calaveras County.
19-year-old George Langston was a passenger in a truck driven by 17-year-old Zachary Airola, in August of 2003.
The truck went off Highway 4 near Parrott´s Ferry Road at high speed, rolled over, and hit an oak tree.
Airola was later found to have a blood alcohol level of .18, more than twice the legal limit.
He pleaded no contest in April to two counts of DUI manslaughter.
The wrongful death suit filed by Jessie Langston, the mother of the victim, says Airola´s parents should have known their son had a propensity to drive fast or under the influence.
The host of a party the boys attended on the night of the accident, Stephanie Schuler, is also named in the suit, as is Calaveras County and the deputy who responded to the party call that night.
