Sponsored by:

Firefighters and aircraft responded to a two-acre grass fire on the west side of Burson Road in Calaveras County. The fire was not spotting across Burson Road and fire crews had the blaze nearly surrounded within a few minutes.

Officials at the scene near Valley Springs had called CHP to close the road near Circle Drive due to smoke. The fire was first reported at 2:51 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Six fire engines, a water tender and dozer were called in to fight the fire, as well as two air tankers from the Columbia Air Attack Base. They were later canceled and returned to their bases. The fire was contained about a half hour later.

Meanwhile one air tanker from the Columbia base is flying a fire reported in the Tahoe National Forest late Sunday afternoon.
