CCWD Moves Closer To $500,000 Study
The Calaveras County Water District has moved another step closer to receiving $500,000 for watershed studies with congressional approval of the 2005 Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill.
The bill includes the $500,000 that will fund studies conducted by the water district and the Army Corps of Engineers.
As outlined at a December CCWD meeting, projects identified for study include:
– Development of a potable water system for residents in the Burson-Wallace area.
– “Banking” surface water from the Calaveras River by recharging the groundwater basin in the Camanche Reservoir area.
– Joining the effort to control flooding along Cosgrove Creek near Valley Springs.
The bill was approved by the House of Representatives on Friday and now goes to the Senate for consideration.
It also includes funds for other projects in Congressman Doug Ose´s District 3, such as $5 million for engineering and design of a new bridge below Folsom Dam, and $1.67 million to construct a new fish screen for the Natomas Mutual Water Company.
