Governor Backs Workers Comp Legislation

Governor Davis has endorsed legislation that he says would shave at least a billion and a half dollars off the skyrocketing cost of treating injured workers. The Democratic governor says the measures would improve care for workers who are hurt on the job while at least reining in prices for workers´ comp insurance, which have more than doubled for many businesses.
The California Chamber of Commerce says Davis´ plan includes a number of steps needed to overhaul the system. But the business group says lawmakers also need to take other cost cutting steps.
