CHP To Search For Shuttle Debris

Sponsored by:

NASA is asking the California Highway Patrol to be on the lookout for debris from the space shuttle Columbia that might have landed in the state.

CHP Commissioner Spike Helmick said yesterday that NASA asked the highway patrol to alert all law enforcement agencies in the state to watch for shuttle parts.

Columbia disintegrated Saturday on its approach for landing in Florida. The seven astronauts were killed.

The request came after NASA received a detailed description from a California radio astronomer who said he saw what looked like debris coming from the shuttle.
