Former Congresswoman Says NASA Needs More Funding
President Bush wants the space program to continue in light of Saturday€™s space shuttle tragedy. Some lawmakers say funding for the space agency must increase.
In Sonora this weekend, former Congresswoman Helen Chenoweth-Hage is one of those commenting in favor of increasing NASA spending, but she says, the funding needs to be focused.
“In order for Americans to be safer we need to push NASA and push our position in space,” Chenoweth-Hage said. “Funding should be very focused. I don´t think we ought to react out of the emotionalism of the moment.
“We need to analyze very carefully the funding aspect. We need to pay more attention to NASA,” Chenoweth-Hage said Sunday. “NASA does need more funding, but it must be focused.”
Some are saying cutbacks in funding for the space program could be linked to the shuttle disaster.
Chenoweth-Hage, a Nevada rancher and former congressman from Idaho, was a guest on AM 1450 KVML´s Mother Lode Views public affairs program Sunday morning.
