Safety Workers To Benefit From Settlement

Sponsored by:

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says more than 17-hundred retired public safety workers in California will benefit from a $250,000,000 settlement. The EEOC says a federal judge finalized the settlement last night. It comes in an age discrimination lawsuit brought against the California Public Employees´ Retirement System, or CalPERS. It´s one of the largest settlements ever obtained in an employment discrimination suit.

The retired workers sued because CalPERS reduced their industrial disability benefits in proportion to their age when they were hired. Workers who got hired later in life got less money — even if they worked the same amount of time as younger employees.
