Mother Lode Man Arrested In Art Fraud Scheme
A Placerville man accused of taking part in an Internet art fraud scheme is in custody in Kansas.
U.S. Attorney John Vincent says 35-year-old Kenneth Fetterman was arrested in Wichita on Saturday on charges of marijuana possession and failure to have a driver€™s license.
A check of Fetterman€™s fingerprint turned up the fact that he had been indicted by a federal grand jury in Sacramento in 2001 on fraud and money laundering charges.
The indictment accused Fetterman and two other men of using more than 40 aliases to place fraudulent bids to inflate the prices of hundreds of paintings they auctioned on eBay, the online auction house.
Prosecutors say the trio convinced one bidder to offer more than $135,000 for a fake masterpiece.
