Compromise Budget Fails…Again

Sponsored by:

A compromise budget agreement failed for the second time this morning on the Assembly floor, as lawmakers from both parties were unable to find the votes needed to pass the nearly $100 billion spending plan.

Assembly leaders are keeping the chamber in session as they continue their marathon session, 21 hours and counting.

The budget bill failed on a test vote of 46-28. California law requires 54 votes to pass the measures.

The budget gained just one vote, that of Rialto Democrat John Longville, from a previous test vote shortly after midnight Tuesday.

Although the proposal had been approved by the Senate Sunday night, Assembly members voted 45-31 in the first vote, as six Democrats failed to vote for it and just four Republicans supported it at that time.
